All audio cassettes are basically miniature reel-to-reels anyway, but this tape is serious!
This tape took some WORK! More than usual, that is.
Okay, switching reels is usually not really a big deal. You just slip the tabs out and snap them onto the lead-ins of
the desired tape. But with these fancy reels I couldn't have gotten to those tabs unless I had totally destroyed the metal
parts, which are the whole point of this cassette! So, for the first time, I ventured into tape splicing. I used regular scotch
"invisible" tape to splice the original lead-ins to the lead-ins of another tape. I just eyeballed it to get it
straight and trimmed the excess off with scissors. The original tape (a Word records performance track) was only about 5 minutes,
but the reels can fit up to 30 minutes of tape, so that's what I used. That makes it my shortest mix tape ever, but it was
worth it for the design!
